Your First Visit

Your first appointment will be about getting to know each other with the doctor only. This consultation will help us learn about your goals and we will talk about your treatment options. The first visit generally lasts about an hour. During this visit, the doctor will learn about your dental history, measure your periodontal health, complete a full series of dental x-rays along with photographs and understand your overall goals for your dental health. After completing their initial exam, the doctor will determine what cleaning is appropriate based on their clinical findings from your periodontal evaluation.

Occasionally, dental treatment or your first cleaning can be performed the same day as your initial appointment. However, a thorough evaluation of your medical history and development of a treatment strategy will normally require the full consultation with a second appointment to provide treatment on another day. If the hygiene department has the availability, we will attempt to perform the necessary cleaning on the same day, but it may require a second visit based on our availability.

You can save some time by printing and filling out our Digital Patient Forms before arriving for your first visit. The form will help us understand your medical history and provide other useful information for your possible treatment.

Other helpful information that you can collect before your first visit:

  • Recent X-Rays (if applicable) – Full Mouth Series within the last 5 years or Bitewings within the last year can be emailed to info@dentistrydc.com
  • A list of any current medicines you are prescribed
  • If you have dental insurance, please bring the necessary completed forms. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims and verify your benefits.

IMPORTANT

Patients under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian on their first consultation visit.

Please let us know of any relevant medical conditions or medications before surgery in case they may interfere with treatment.
